JOB TITLE:  CAMP RANGER-Girl Scouts of Oregon and SW Washington 

 

LOCATION:  North Plains (Hillsboro), OR

JOB FUNCTION:

The Camp Ranger provides general maintenance, construction, customer engagement, custodial services, and security for Mountaindale Outdoor Program Center (a beautiful 50-acre wooded facility near Hillsboro, OR.) The ranger is responsible for ensuring the site is in good repair, environmentally sensitive, and accessible. They work closely with council staff, camp directors and volunteers to ensure that Girl Scouts and guests have a successful, safe camping experience.

  •  The Camp Ranger will live on-site in Council provided housing (2 BR, 1 Bath manufactured home).

 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. As site host, welcomes young campers, provides hospitality and a safe environment.
  2. Performs year-round grounds maintenance including snow removal, trail work, road maintenance, mowing, planting, bucking, splitting and stacking firewood, etc.
  3. Participates in construction and maintenance projects, working both independently and with others.
  4. Processes check-in and check-out of groups. Greets diverse groups of guests and acquaints them with facilities and camp rules.
  5. Keeps campgrounds and facilities in very good condition. Cleans and maintains interior and exterior of buildings and equipment. Reviews cleaning procedures and provides equipment to guests.
  6. Monitors and maintains wells/reservoirs, water purification, and septic systems.
  7. Provides support to camp directors, volunteers, and staff for camp visits and activities.
  8. Connects with utility providers, neighboring property owners, and education providers.
  9. Responds to emergencies on the site, coordinating with others as necessary.
  10. Checks appliances, plumbing, electricity, furnaces, fire extinguishers, communication systems, water and septic systems on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  11. As Girl Scout representative interacts and coordinates with federal, state and county officials, health and building departments, inspectors, fire marshal, sheriff, BLM, USFS, etc. to ensure compliance with relevant federal, state and local laws, regulations, and codes.
  12. Serves as a member of the property team by providing backup and assistance at other Council properties, sharing information, and maintaining good communication with the team.

 

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Working knowledge and experience in general construction.
  2. Experience in a variety of maintenance areas including but not limited to: grounds, trails and turf maintenance, plumbing, ability to trouble-shoot electrical/mechanical problems/alarm systems etc.
  3. Proficiency in the safe use of hand, air, and power tools, including chain saws.
  4. Physical strength and stamina are essential and include lifting up to 75 pounds. The ranger must perform manual labor in an outdoor setting under all weather conditions.
  5. Able to work a variable work schedule, depending on site activities and occupancy. The ranger is often required to work weekends, evenings and holidays, and to occasionally travel (including overnight) to other sites.
  6. This is a live-in position. You must live in Girl Scout provided on-site housing.
  7. Demonstrated customer service and engagement prowess, with strong communication skills.
  8. Maturity of judgment and willingness and ability to supervise and work in teams with diverse groups of people.
  9. Organized, computer literate.
  10. Driver's license and minimum state level of auto insurance for travel within the council jurisdiction.
  11. Models behavior and complies with the laws, mission, and purpose of Girl Scouting. Become a registered member of GSUSA.

 

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Construction and forestry experience, including work for the US Forest Service or similar organization.
  2. Non-profit or related government experience and/or experience working at a youth camp/regional park system.

 

Classification: Non-Exempt, regular, full-time, benefits eligible.

Salary Range: $14.62 to $15.35 per hour DOQ and employer provided on-site housing, internet, phone, garbage service, water and sewer.
