Position Summary: The Director of Human Resources is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining highly effective and strategically aligned HR systems, policies, procedures and practices.  In collaboration with other organizational leaders and staff, the HR Director ensures that GSOSW is a "Great Place to Work", focused on developing girls' leadership and self-esteem.

GSOSW employs 85 regular staff year-round, and approximately 150 additional staff for various seasonal programs. This is a senior position and a department of one, providing the full range of Human Resource functions in a collaborative, positive, supportive environment.

Major Accountabilities/Job Duties:

  • Recruit a diverse pool of top-notch candidates to join GSOSW. Develop policies, procedures and job postings for the recruitment and on-boarding of new staff. Work with hiring managers and oversee the selection and on-boarding processes.
  • Research annual benefit offerings with the broker, and make program recommendations. Administer all employee benefits and leave programs.
  • Research and recommend salary program updates, ensuring pay and benefit packages are competitive and equitable.
  • Administer the council's performance management program by training staff in coaching and feedback techniques and in conducting formal performance appraisals. Assure that performance reviews and salary administration is done consistently to ensure equity within the organization.
  • Support the council's commitment to diversity of girls, volunteers, and staff, and conduct all activities with a high degree of cultural competency.
  • Advise, coach and counsel managers and staff on a wide range of employment matters. Respond to inquiries regarding policies and procedures. Be a problem-solver and advocate for doing the right thing to maintain a positive culture consistent with GSOSW values.
  • Develop training, mentoring, and other development opportunities for staff based on council needs, career paths, succession planning, etc. in order to provide a pathway for staff advancement.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws by recommending updates, and administering programs as required. Contribute to building a cohesive, flexible, and productive staff environment that demonstrates the values and mission of Girl Scouts and delivers high-quality customer service.
  • Manage the Safety and Health program; participate on the Safety Committee.
  • Subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement, and become a registered member of GSUSA.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of six years of executive/senior level management experience, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Direct experience managing and providing the full suite of HR functions, including:  recruitment and selection, mentoring and development of staff, performance management, compensation, benefits, safety, regulatory compliance, and budget administration is desirable.
  • Passion for Girl Scouts' mission of developing the next generation of women leaders.
  • Energetic self-starter with a highly collaborative style, maturity, and strong influencing skills. Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a wide range of people.
  • Strong organizational skills and a successful track record in overseeing multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results. Good project management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work on a wide range of sensitive and confidential issues, and to communicate effectively.
  • Understanding of and commitment to organizational diversity; ability to work in a diverse environment and contribute to organizational growth in diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • HR certification highly desirable (SHRM or SPHR)
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; comfortable using a variety of software programs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends as required by position responsibilities.

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range minimum of $61,300 and midpoint of $76,616, with a generous benefits package. Offer DOE. This position is open until filled; first review March 27, 2019.
